Third Visit to Sunbeam

Science Experiments was the theme today.
A DIY Parachute, the-paper-that-will-unfold-by-itself trick, invisible ink writing and charades!

DIY parachute had the boys fighting over who gets what spiderman, either red or black. It was a pretty last minute thing as we had only went nearby to the get the stuff in the morning. The girls had some doll thing which had shiny clothes. As expected, the little boys all go "ewwwwww" when I suggested that they have the doll instead of the spiderman. (The spiderman was pretty cool, had lights when you press them at the back. And we didn't know it until the kids started playing with it)
However, the whole parachute thing didn't go so well, due to the parachute' size and we had to quickly moved on to the next activity.

The paper-water thing well pretty well and had the kids quite entertained. Basically, with paper and crayon, I am sure the kids will be entertained for the whole day. KT even had a competition with one of the guys to see whose paper would unfold in the water faster.

Invisible ink is frankly, one of my favorite experiment during my younger days, and proved to be the most popular item we had for the kids today. As we had to heat the invisible ink to see the words clearly, the houseparents kindly lent us an iron and an ironing board. Zhimin promptly showcased his capabilities as a household-husband material by ironing much of the paper. Who knew Zhimin could do that! Ladies, any takers?

Charades was a pretty game, but was hampered by our inability to control the children. Hopefully, the game would be made more fun next time if we can get more manpower to control the children.

Although we had the highest amount of turnout for this session, it was a pity that we didn't get a group-shot due to SunBeam's rule that photography with the children are not allowed. However, we can take photographs of ourselves and I did managed to sneak in this shot of LY. Enjoy.

Laykhim - looking very unglam

17 May 2008 - First Trip to Sunbeam

- from lk

besides the fact tt I had gastric flu that day, 17 May was certainly a day to rmb because its our first visit to sunbeam..

lets see.. who was there:
guan hui, minmin, keith, BX

thanks to BX and zhimin, we met at the wrong LRT (Keat Hong instead of the correct South View)

After getting our morning dao hui chui (soya bean milk) and zao cha, we wlaked to sunbeam and was immediately greeted with a large group of chirpy children and their "good morning jie jie and kor kor!"

Lucky we have the spontaneous minmin - she established rapport with them as soon as we saw them. while i was lethargic, bx, guanhui and keith were not 100% familiar with playing with kids yet. however they warmed us up soon after by being talkative..

After waiting a long while before all the kids assembled, we finally got started on our introduction game: the kids have to shout out their name, take an eraser then shout out the name of the country on the eraser. Giving out the erasers is however a messy affair as they didn't know where to keep the erasers and some even tried to ask for more erasers.

Lesson 1: No presents until the end of the session + everyone should have the same present!

Pandemonium started to break out after the children started to get more energetic with qing hong deng (traffic light) and the failed blow wind blow.

Ice (catching) ended more like a cardio workout as we could nto catch the many running terrors!

Despite some unplanned circumstances, it was an energetic start to our time in Sunbeam.. =)

Just hope more of you could join us!
